With over 25 years of experience in consulting, technology, and startups, John founded Typhoon Consulting in 2012, establishing it as the first Hong Kong-based management consultancy to expand into the UK and Germany. He went on to co-found and lead several of Typhoon Group’s subsidiaries, including Typhoon Farma in Colorado, a world-class hemp grower and responsible hemp standard author farm; Typhoon Properties and Typhoon Hospitality in Montrose, reflecting his and Alia’s shared commitment to community transformation; and Typhoon Capital, which offers bespoke investment and wealth management advice focused on legacy and long-term impact.

John also serves as the co-founder and COO of fintech platform Ambr (formerly Typhoon Wealth), a regulated Electronic Money Institution based in Hong Kong, London, and Lithuania. Ambr provides borderless, multi-currency financial services and payments powered by innovative blockchain and stablecoin technology.

Before founding Typhoon Group, John was Managing Director at Links International, overseeing finance operations across Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, and Shanghai. Prior to Links, he consulted as a strategy and change lead for CSL, driving key initiatives in business operations and technology transformation. Earlier in his career, John spent impactful years at Accenture in London as a Senior Manager, leading large-scale global engagements in IT strategy and organizational transformation—work that shaped his expertise in scaling businesses through systems and structure. He began his career at Credit Suisse, where he managed a global technology team as Assistant Vice President in Network and Tech Services.

John holds a BAI (Hons) in Civil Engineering and a BA in Mathematics from Trinity College Dublin, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Limerick. Born in Ireland and raised between East Africa and Ireland, John brings a global perspective and a natural talent for connecting people and ideas. Together with his wife Alia, John is passionate about building businesses that bring transformation to cities and nations while modeling radical generosity as a way of life.

As the CEO of Typhoon Group, Alia Eyres inspires purpose-driven leadership across our diverse portfolio of enterprises worldwide. Her mission is to transform traditional business models and empower senior leaders within Typhoon Group to drive innovation, growth, and sustainable impact.

Previously, Alia served as the CEO of Mother’s Choice from 2012 to 2024, where she transformed the Hong Kong-based charity serving vulnerable children and pregnant teenagers. Under her leadership, the organization expanded its reach from hundreds to thousands annually, pioneering innovative programs that became regional models. Alia managed a team of 150 staff and 1,100 volunteers, raised millions in funding, and advocated for policy changes that significantly improved child welfare services. Before her impactful work at Mother’s Choice, Alia practiced corporate law at Hogan Lovells in Hong Kong and Skadden, Arps in New York, specializing in cross-border transactions and investments. She holds a JD from Georgetown University and a BA in International Affairs from The George Washington University, where she was a Division 1 rower.

Alia’s leadership extends beyond Typhoon Group; she has served as Board Chair of the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University and is on the Board of Advisors for the International Montessori School. She is a judge for the Hong Kong American Chamber of Commerce Women of Influence Awards and Conference Committee. In 2020, Alia was the Southeast Asian Regional Honoree for the Young Presidents Organization’s Global Impact Award and received the 14th Annual Compassion Award from the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Charitable Foundation. She also won the Bob Christian Alumna of the Year Award from Hong Kong International School in 2019 and was the first Asian recipient of the Macquarie Group Foundation’s David Clarke Social Innovation Fellowship in 2014. In 2021, Alia was named a ‘Woman of Power’ by Prestige Hong Kong, recognized as one of ‘Asia’s Most Influential’ by Tatler Hong Kong, and named a ‘Hong Kong Influencer’ by Hong Kong Living in 2020.

Born in Hong Kong and raised in both Hong Kong and Colorado, Alia expertly balances leading a global organization with raising her and John’s seven children. Her personal journey of integrating professional achievement with family life and social impact makes her a compelling and inspirational voice on purposeful leadership and creating lasting change that impacts future generations.

As the Chief Operating Officer of Typhoon Group*, Helene Rao leads the Group’s operational strategy and capacity building across its diverse and rapidly growing businesses. She is dedicated to driving operational excellence, enabling businesses within the Group to navigate transformation, and unlocking their full potential.

With over 25 years of experience in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors, Helene has a proven track record of architecting solutions that empower organizations to scale and thrive. She began her career in investment banking technology, holding various management positions overseeing software development at top-tier financial institutions, including five years at Bankers Trust and seven years at Goldman Sachs. In these roles, she led complex system implementations, built and managed high-performing global teams, and drove operational efficiency across sales and trading platforms in London, Hong Kong, and Tokyo.

In 2014, Helene transitioned to the nonprofit sector, bringing her expertise in technology, operations, and strategic change to Mother’s Choice, a leading child welfare organization in Hong Kong. As Chief Operating Officer, she oversaw all frontline services and internal operations, including Technology, Human Resources, Finance, and Facilities & Administration. Helene led numerous business reengineering projects to professionalize and scale the organization, transforming its services and operations into systematic, data-driven models. She implemented technology infrastructure, developed a comprehensive data strategy, and embedded impact measurement frameworks to inform decision-making and improve outcomes. By training and equipping frontline teams, she drove sustainable, measurable change and played a key role in introducing global best practices in case management, positioning Mother’s Choice as a center of excellence and a model for child welfare services in the region.

Born in France and raised in France, the UK, and the USA, Helene thrives in diverse, fast-paced environments. She holds an engineering degree from École Polytechnique Féminine in France. In 2021, she and her husband, along with their four children, became a foster family, deepening her personal commitment to strengthening systems that support vulnerable children. Helene is passionate about building capacity so that organizations evolve with purpose, resilience, and sustainability.
